Exciting News for Carter Baemler
Typically, when a manager visits a pitcher during an away game, it isn’t exactly good news. However, for Carter Baemler of the Texas Rangers, things took a positive turn on Monday night.
Baumler stepped onto the mound in the fifth inning of the Rangers’ exhibition match against the Kansas City Royals, taking over from Mackenzie Gore. He managed to hold the Royals scoreless and struck out one batter. Interestingly, even though Baumler didn’t face the required three batters, his manager, Skip Shoemaker, was still allowed to leave the game to share some crucial news.
Shoemaker called the infield together for a quick meeting and shared that Baemler had made the major league roster. You could see the joy on Baumler’s face as the huddle broke apart.
Reflecting on the moment, he remarked, “Someone mentioned they wished they had captured my reaction when I saw him.” Most of the time, a manager’s visit signals impending removal from the game, so this was a delightful surprise for Baemler.
He noted, “Honestly, I thought I was going to be taken out. I never expected to hear that I made the team.”
Originally picked up by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the Rule 5 Draft, Baumler was later traded to the Rangers in the offseason. Being a Rule 5 designation meant the Rangers had to keep him on their roster all season if he made the opening day team.
Once the news was confirmed, Shoemaker delivered the happy tidings. What a moment it must have been for Baemler! He also shared how everything caught him by surprise and how he was left with an unforgettable memory.
Though Baumler is yet to make his major league debut, he was initially chosen by the Baltimore Orioles in the fifth round of the 2020 draft. His journey took him through various teams after spending time in the Orioles’ farm system.
