Severe Homelessness Crisis in Los Angeles

In Los Angeles, the homeless crisis has reached alarming levels, with some residents living in storm drains.

Recent footage revealed shocking conditions in the sewers of south Los Angeles—overflowing trash, human waste, and an “unbearable” stench were evident. Reports describe the environment as dire.

A woman was filmed emerging from one of these drains, where a makeshift dog house had been placed to obscure the entrance.

Juan Naura, who is actively involved in trash collection efforts across the city, expressed disbelief at the living conditions. He encountered two individuals coming out of the sewers while cleaning on Monday.

“People who live like rats,” he remarked, capturing a raw sense of the situation.

Naura has previously seen residents living in such places and coordinated with the city to address these issues. “This is inhumane. Why are we accepting this?” he exclaimed, urging city officials to take action. “This individual doesn’t deserve such a life.”

Neighbors, like Latoia Thomas, also emphasized the urgency for help. “I’m frustrated… we really need assistance,” she stated. “The community requires support.”

A spokesperson for Mayor Karen Bass commented on the tragic nature of this situation, indicating that under her leadership, there has been a 17% decrease in homelessness.

The city has committed to cleaning the storm drains in question.

One reporter, Matthew Seedorf, mentioned that the sights he witnessed would remain with him for a long time.
