Charles Barkley Stands by Traditional Parenting Approaches

Charles Barkley, the renowned Basketball Hall of Famer and March Madness analyst, recently shared his thoughts during an appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show.” The conversation started around the tournament and even touched on the potential interest of his colleague, Kenny Smith, in a coaching role at UNC. However, it quickly shifted to Barkley’s views on today’s athletes, a topic that visibly stirred him.

“I can’t even yell at them anymore,” Barkley remarked about modern players, reflecting a sense of frustration. The discussion then pivoted to parenting styles, where Barkley boldly stated, “People talk about not yelling at your kids. But yes, you can yell at them. You’ll be yelling too… That’s why these kids are acting out.” He emphasized his belief in discipline and seemed quite clear about his stance regarding children’s behavior today.

“I’m not advocating for violence,” he added cautiously, “but if you don’t discipline kids, they might end up like the brats we have today.” He conveyed concern over what he sees as a lack of understanding among kids about what’s right and wrong. “Kids are, I mean… let’s be honest, kids can be pretty clueless. Sometimes a wake-up call is needed to get the message across.” It’s a blunt approach that not everyone would agree with, perhaps, but it’s his perspective nonetheless.

Barkley also had a message for critics. “Go ahead, attack me on social media. I don’t read the comments; I don’t care what you think.” It seems he’s not too concerned about public opinion, which adds a layer of defiance to his stance.

Ultimately, he concluded, “I’m going to say what needs to be said. Some people will like it, some won’t. And, well, everyone will get over it.” It’s clear that while Barkley’s views might ruffle some feathers, he’s steadfast in his beliefs about parenting and discipline.
