Police who shot the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner behaved inappropriately

Recent developments surrounding the police shooting of Jillian Lauren, the estranged wife of Weezer bassist Scott Schreiner, have stirred considerable attention. The Los Angeles Police Commission has decided not to indict the officers involved in the incident.

The tragic event unfolded when the police shot and killed 52-year-old Lauren in April. Authorities stated she was charged with attempted murder after allegedly obstructing a police chase and threatening officers with a gun.

On Tuesday, the Commission referenced a standard internal report related to the shooting, which found that the involved officers and a sergeant acted against department policy.

Now, Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell is tasked with determining the next steps regarding any potential disciplinary actions for those officers.

Lauren has not provided any public comments regarding the shooting.

This situation began when law enforcement responded to a hit-and-run near Eagle Rock, the area where Lauren and Schreiner lived. The suspects fled towards Lauren’s neighborhood, prompting police to set up barriers swiftly.

Lauren emerged from her home, armed, and confronted the officers, who were equipped with 9mm handguns.

Despite multiple requests to drop her weapon, she pointed it at the officers, leading them to fire and ultimately strike her.

After receiving treatment for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound at a local hospital, she was arrested on charges of attempted murder.

In a December interview, she expressed her perspective: “I was doing my best to protect my family… That impulse was self-protection.”

Reflecting on the aftermath, she described her reality as shattered, comparing it to a carefully arranged deck of cards being thrown into the air, and expressed uncertainty about how everything would settle.

Lauren is known as a New York Times bestselling author, with works including “Some Girls: My Harem Life,” where she writes about her experiences related to being a concubine in Brunei.

A mother of two tattooed sons, she is currently participating in a two-year mental health program and has revealed that she struggles with PTSD.

She has shared her views on being a survivor of sex trafficking and domestic violence, highlighting the importance of discussing mental health issues. “I’m in a position to be able to talk about it,” she remarked.

No officers or bystanders sustained injuries during the encounter with Lauren. One suspect from the hit-and-run has been apprehended by the California Highway Patrol, while the other two remain at large.

Lauren, who has over 17,000 Instagram followers, identifies as a “Jew, Marxist, and maximalist,” sharing glimpses of her life and promoting her works online.

She married Schreiner in 2005, and they adopted two children together. However, in December, Lauren filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences,” and she is seeking spousal support alongside joint custody of their teenage sons.

In discussions about her life, Lauren acknowledged the challenges of divorce, stating, “Divorce is hard. I don’t care who you are.”

She mentioned that the confrontation with the police marked a “crisis point” for her, as she and Schreiner had been estranged for some time.
