Armed Bystander Intervenes to Prevent Man from Attacking His Children's Mother with a Knife

Las Vegas Man Charged After Allegedly Attacking Partner

A Las Vegas man reportedly slammed his vehicle into his partner’s workplace and attempted to stab her, but was halted by gunfire from a bystander, according to an indictment filed in District Court on Tuesday.

Sean Hundley, 45, allegedly sent a text message to the mother of his three children on Monday morning, indicating he planned to crash his car into her workplace.

At 7:30 a.m., he followed through with that plan and then attacked the woman with a knife multiple times, prosecutors stated during Tuesday’s court session.

Hundley is facing 10 charges, including attempted murder with a deadly weapon, six counts of assault with a deadly weapon, robbery, causing serious bodily injury through gunfire, and criminal damage to property.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, he was employed at a Dollar Tree on Craig Road near Decatur.

The prosecutor noted in court:

He texted his family, announcing his intent to crash into the workplace. He carried out his threat, and after attempting to kill her with his vehicle, he followed her out the back door and stabbed her in front of several witnesses.

During this incident, an armed bystander fired shots to intervene, with at least one shot being reported.

“When someone pursues another in a way that threatens their life, even if it’s a family member, it’s reasonable to assume that others might intervene with force,” prosecutors explained in court.

The gunfire caused Hundley to flee the scene. Details regarding the shooter have not been disclosed.

The woman was transported to a hospital, though her current condition remains unknown.

Reports indicate Hundley has a criminal history, including five felonies and gross misdemeanors in various states from 1998 to 2006, but specifics of those were not revealed in court.

His attorney requested bail be set at $30,000, citing that his previous offenses were from long ago and highlighting his community ties, claiming he earned $5,000 a month running a cleaning business.

Nevertheless, Judge Susan Bauckham set bail at $750,000, as the prosecution had asked, citing safety concerns for the public.

“The facts of this case, including sending threatening texts and the nature of the attack, weigh heavily in our considerations,” Judge Bauckham stated.
