Vance's Anti-Fraud Task Force and CMS Halt 70 Hospice and Home Health Providers Identified as High-Risk Fraud in LA

Fraud Elimination Task Force Suspends Providers in Los Angeles

Vice President J.D. Vance’s Fraud Elimination Task Force, along with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), has identified and suspended 70 hospice and home health care providers in Los Angeles due to concerns about high-risk fraudulent activities, according to information obtained.

Details about this suspension emerged on Wednesday.

“We anticipate this number will increase significantly as the task force intensifies its efforts to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse,” a source indicated.

The task force was established earlier this month by President Donald Trump, building on previous initiatives announced by Vance and CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz aimed at tackling fraud in Minnesota.

During a February 25 announcement, Governor Vance indicated that certain Medicaid funding would be suspended for Minnesota until state officials demonstrate “good stewardship” of taxpayer funds. Oz mentioned that there were approximately $259 million in pending “Medicaid back payments” owed to states.

Officials highlighted that the task force aims to investigate each state for waste, fraud, and abuse through enhanced interagency cooperation, employing a CMS framework in its early efforts, utilizing CMS’s data capabilities to identify and address potential fraud.

Moreover, CMS has developed an AI-powered fraud detection system capable of flagging or blocking claims that appear potentially fraudulent, and this system will be expanded to assist the task force’s objectives. The onboarding of CMS technicians to further develop the AI system is currently underway.

A spokesperson from Vance’s office stated that the vice president “is eager to tackle presidential misconduct.”

“Americans deserve better than to be taken advantage of by those who undermine this country. The Fraud Elimination Task Force will ensure that critical taxpayer-funded services benefit hardworking Americans, not fraudsters,” the spokesperson remarked.
