New Criminal Referrals for NY Attorney General Letitia James

New York’s Democratic Attorney General, Letitia James, has received two additional criminal referrals following the dismissal of a previous mortgage fraud complaint by a federal judge.

These new referrals stem from findings by Bill Pulte, the Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency.

Pruitt, the individual behind the referrals, suggested that James might have submitted false details in documents to Allstate Insurance in Illinois and Universal Property Insurance in Florida. He referenced insights shared by attorney and activist Mike Davis.

In a communication made to Andrew Boutros, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, Pruitt stated that James “indicated in her insurance documents that there were no children and that only one adult would be residing in the home.”

The referral continues, “However, she was aware that four individuals were actually living there: her three children and a niece.”

Additionally, in a referral to Jason Quiñones, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Pulte accused James of misrepresenting that her property would be vacant for five months each year.

“Contrary to this, the house was inhabited year-round by her niece,” he noted.

Responding to these allegations, James’ attorney, Abby Lowell, dismissed them and criticized former President Donald Trump.

“Mr. Trump and his political allies persist in misusing their authority for personal vendetta against her, continually reshuffling names, refiling, and reiterating groundless claims,” Lowell stated.

“Instead of addressing the escalating costs of living in this country, they engage in this misguided retaliation campaign,” she added. “These desperate tactics will ultimately fail, much like prior attempts, revealing an administration that has neglected its obligations to the American people for trivial political gains.”

The Trump administration has made multiple unsuccessful attempts to prosecute James over past mortgage fraud allegations.

James previously led a civil lawsuit against Trump and the Trump Organization for real estate fraud, which resulted in a significant judgment of $464 million. However, that verdict was later overturned as “excessive.”
