Trump’s Signature to Appear on U.S. Currency for the 250th Anniversary
The U.S. dollar will feature President Donald Trump’s signature in honor of the 250th anniversary of American independence, making him the first sitting president to do so, according to the Treasury Department.
This marks the first time in 165 years that a sitting president’s signature will replace that of the U.S. Treasury secretary on banknotes. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent noted that this change acknowledges what he describes as the Trump administration’s “historic accomplishments.”
Bessent emphasized, “Under President Trump’s leadership, we are on a path to unprecedented economic growth and fiscal stability.” He added that having the dollar bear Trump’s name is a fitting tribute as the nation celebrates its semi-quincentennial.
The initial $100 bill, featuring Trump’s and Bessent’s signatures, is set to be released in June, with more denominations planned for later, as reported by Reuters.
As per Reuters, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing is still issuing banknotes signed by former Treasury Secretaries Janet Yellen and Lynn Malerba.
Secretary Brandon Beach stated that having Trump’s signature on U.S. currency feels “natural” in light of his contributions to America’s economic recovery.
This announcement coincides with Trump’s attempt to solidify his legacy, including a newly approved design for a commemorative gold coin featuring his portrait.
Trump’s name is already associated with various buildings and government programs, further establishing his mark on American history.
