Suspect Arrested in 30-Year-Old Lovers Lane Murder Case in Texas

A long-standing cold case—the tragic murder of a young couple in Texas over three decades ago—has seen some movement with the arrest of a suspect.

Floyd William Parrott, 26, faces capital murder charges connected to the deaths of Garland “Andy” Atkinson, 22, and Cheryl Henry, 22. This announcement came from the Harris County District Attorney’s Office after authorities reviewed new information associated with the case.

Parrott was apprehended on Wednesday in Lincoln, Nebraska, by officers from the Houston Police Department and the FBI. He is currently awaiting extradition back to Harris County.

In a twist, investigators discovered that Parrott had been a suspect in a 1996 sexual assault case, which they revisited while examining evidence related to this cold case. DNA evidence linked him not only to that incident but also matched samples gathered during Henry’s autopsy, according to a criminal complaint.

Atkinson’s and Henry’s bodies were discovered on August 23, 1990, by a trooper who noticed their vehicle had been parked for an unusual amount of time during a routine patrol.

When police arrived, they found an unresponsive woman in the car and an unresponsive man nearby. Tragically, both had suffered fatal injuries; they were both stabbed in the throat. Autopsy results later revealed that Henry had also been sexually assaulted.

For years, the case remained unsolved, and authorities circulated a composite sketch of a potential suspect years after the murders, but it led to no significant developments.

District Attorney Sean Teare emphasized the emotional weight this case has held over the families involved and the wider community for decades. “They have faced numerous setbacks but kept pushing forward for justice. The efforts of all those involved bring hope to the families of Cheryl and Andy,” he stated.

As this case unfolds, more details on how investigators tied Parrott to the murders may soon emerge. For many, this development is a long-awaited step toward closure.
