White House Responds to Reports of Todd Lyons’ Hospitalizations
On Friday, the White House strongly denied claims that Todd Lyons, the acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), was hospitalized multiple times due to stress stemming from the Trump administration’s policies.
This backlash came after a report by Politico, which stated Lyons had been hospitalized at least twice while working on Trump’s immigration agenda. The article cited unnamed current and former government officials, suggesting that stress had hindered Lyons from making critical operational decisions.
One unnamed former official reportedly expressed concern about Lyons’ ability to make managerial decisions, given the stressful circumstances he faced.
According to Politico, Lyons’ stress was exacerbated by pressures from higher-ups to intensify deportation efforts, including alleged harsh interactions with senior advisor Stephen Miller during conversations with administration officials.
In reaction to the article, Katie Miller, Stephen Miller’s wife, criticized Politico for what she described as “inaccurate garbage.” Similarly, White House Press Secretary Abigail Jackson stated that Politico had been informed “on the record” before the article’s release.
Jackson remarked, “Todd Lyons is an American patriot who has worked tirelessly to reverse Biden’s disastrous immigration policies.” She further implied that the article continued to persist despite multiple denials and confirmed sources contradicting its claims.
Reports indicated that Lyon’s hospital visits occurred over several months. On one occasion, security personnel escorted him to the hospital, where he remained overnight. In a separate incident, while accompanying government officials in Los Angeles, Lyons reportedly voiced his concerns about ICE agents’ difficulties in locating illegal immigrants.
During this ride-along, it was noted that one of his bodyguards brought a portable defibrillator from a nearby office in case of a medical emergency.
Lyons expressed frustration about the White House’s habit of directing criticism toward his agency after heated discussions with Miller, as recounted by current and former officials present.
In a statement, Jackson affirmed, “Todd, Stephen, and the entire White House team have a great working relationship,” assuring that they are dedicated to fulfilling the President’s commitments.
