Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss achieves significant legal success

Trinidad Chambliss Set to Return for Sixth Year

It looks like Trinidad Chambliss will be back for another year of college football.

The Mississippi Supreme Court recently denied the NCAA’s request to contest the ruling that allows Chambliss to play this season, confirming his spot at Ole Miss.

This decision was made public on Friday by Chief Judge Josiah D. Coleman, although he did not elaborate on the reasons for the ruling.

The order stated, “After due consideration, it is determined that the petition should be denied. Therefore, it is ordered that the petition be dismissed. It is so ordered.”

Chambliss’ legal case will proceed, but it’s unlikely to reach a conclusion before the next season ends, so he seems set to continue playing for Ole Miss.

A judge in Mississippi had previously granted Chambliss an additional year of eligibility back in February. Judge Robert Whitwell ruled that Chambliss met the criteria for a medical redshirt.

However, the NCAA appealed this decision in early March, insisting that it should have the final say over its own eligibility rules.

Chambliss expressed his relief after the ruling, saying, “This is a blessing, it’s a blessing. I’m certainly relieved.”

When it comes to the ongoing discussion about his eligibility, it’s noteworthy that Chambliss missed the entire 2022 season while playing at Division II Ferris State due to a respiratory issue.

He mentioned that the head coach at Ferris State, Tony Annese, assured him he would get a medical redshirt during that time.

During the proceedings, the NCAA attempted to submit medical documentation indicating that Chambliss opted against surgery to “compete in the football season.”

Since transferring to Ole Miss, Chambliss really shone last season, throwing for 3,937 yards, landing 22 touchdowns, and only three interceptions. His performance helped propel the Rebels to a solid 13-2 record.

Now, I guess he’s eager to just focus on training and what’s ahead.
