Father describes troubling family dinner in Fresno as a homeless man has a meltdown nearby.

A family dinner in Fresno took an unsettling turn when a homeless man displayed violent behavior near a child. The incident was recorded, showing a boy eating his pasta quietly while a shirtless man danced outside the restaurant, waving his arms and mumbling to himself.

The father, who posted the video online, criticized local officials for allowing what he described as dangerous conduct. His concerns are reflected in statistics indicating that, as of 2024, 4,305 individuals are homeless in Fresno and Madera counties, with a significant number lacking stable shelter.

In a passionate social media post, he called out Mayor Jerry Dyer and Governor Gavin Newsom for misusing taxpayer resources and normalizing homelessness, stating, “I will not let this be seen as normal by my children.” He expressed that he intentionally refrains from dining with his family in parts of Fresno due to the unsettling atmosphere.

He believes that any efforts focused on housing without tackling underlying addiction and accountability for criminal behavior are unlikely to succeed. The father’s view suggests that the man’s erratic actions were likely due to severe substance abuse and mental health challenges. “Giving him room to do drugs will not help,” he asserted.

The video gained traction online, igniting discussions about how California addresses homelessness and whether families should steer clear of certain areas. For this father, the experience has changed his perspective on dining out. He added, “I pray these people get the tough love they need and get sober.”
