SE Cupp’s Take on Gavin Newsom

CNN commentator SE Cupp expressed concerns on Monday, asserting that California Governor Gavin Newsom may not be the ideal figure for the Democrats moving forward.

During a discussion on “CNN Table for Five,” Cupp referenced President Donald Trump’s recent remarks, where he suggested that Newsom is unsuitable for the presidency due to his struggles with dyslexia. Trump stated, “It’s a bit strange for someone with a low IQ to make such claims, especially since Newsom has acknowledged a learning disability. Personally, I support those with learning challenges, but I don’t think someone like that should be president.”

Newsom, who many speculate has presidential aspirations, has openly talked about living with dyslexia, a condition that can significantly impact reading skills.

Cupp, however, contended that while Newsom has had his share of missteps, his dyslexia should not be a factor in evaluating his leadership. She cautioned that Democrats might be making a mistake if they consider him for their 2028 candidate. “My take is that I don’t have a positive view of Gavin Newsom,” she said. “It’s not right for the Democrats to rally behind him. I doubt that another liberal from coastal California will elevate their party.”

Continuing her point, Cupp remarked, “I think Newsom has made numerous errors. For a state as economically crucial as California, we shouldn’t model ourselves after it.” In some discussions, participants highlighted California’s status as not just a U.S. economic powerhouse but as a significant global economy. However, critics suggest that this status stems largely from its sizable population, with many opting to relocate to other states.

Recently, Newsom has been trying to distance himself from the further-left factions within the Democratic Party, even welcoming conservative figures onto his podcast, all while facing criticism from progressive supporters.

Efforts to contact Newsom’s office for comment went unanswered.
