Organizations Call on Trump Administration to Expedite Construction of Natural Gas Facilities

Conservative Coalition Pressures Trump Administration on Natural Gas Supply

A group of 28 conservative organizations reached out to the Trump administration on Thursday, advocating for the advancement of natural gas supplies to help prevent potential power outages and utility price increases.

This coalition, which includes entities like American Commitment, the Taxpayer Protection Alliance, and the Institute for Energy Research (IER), directed a letter to Laura Sweat, the Chair of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC):

The ongoing energy emergency and grid challenges in our country stem from four years of energy policies under Biden that placed climate change over access to reliable, affordable electricity. Both state and federal Democrats have shut down dependable coal and gas plants while undermining essential infrastructure needed to keep the lights on. Now, inevitably, they are shifting the blame onto President Trump for the crisis they created.

The coalition warned in their letter that without “urgent and bold action,” the U.S. faces significant risks of utility price hikes and energy shortages.

According to reports, FERC is currently evaluating a certification program designed to expedite the construction of natural gas pipelines and liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities.

“While we commend their focus on this, reforming the program is the fastest avenue to increase energy availability, but it still falls short of what’s needed,” they stated. “The Blanket Program speeds up standard permitting for gas infrastructure projects that don’t pose significant environmental risks, yet it has not been allowed to develop as it should.”

The coalition made several requests to FERC:

  • Increase the cost caps established in the 1980s permanently to reflect today’s economic realities;
  • Remove cost caps on compression stations;
  • Ensure regular upgrades for LNG facilities.

The coalition emphasized:

FERC should enable LNG facilities to perform routine projects similar to pipelines. The bold energy policies initiated by President Trump, beginning with the reversal of the Biden LNG ban, have strengthened America’s position as a leading energy powerhouse. U.S. LNG exports reached a record high in 2025 and are expected to double by 2030. Essential repairs and adjustments to maintain export capacity shouldn’t be delayed by prolonged permitting processes.

“These reforms don’t necessitate Congressional approval, only decisiveness. Each month of delay increases the likelihood of power outages, price hikes, and economic harm, which Democrats may exploit to blame this administration,” they reiterated in their letter to FERC. “The American public is observing this. We urge FERC to act swiftly to implement these reforms and restore the dependable, affordable energy infrastructure that this nation deserves.”
