Missing Arizona Girl Found Alive After 30 Years
An Arizona woman who disappeared in 1994 has been located alive over three decades later. Initially believed to be a victim of kidnapping, new findings suggest she left the country on her own accord.
This week, the Gila County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Christina “Tina” Marie Plante, who went missing from Star Valley at just 13 years old, has been found at the age of 44. It’s a startling turnaround in a cold case that has puzzled investigators for years.
Details from the lead investigator, Lt. Jamie Garrett, shed light on the situation. He expressed his astonishment upon discovering that Plante had voluntarily left, rather than being forcibly taken. “I think she ran away because she wasn’t happy with where she lived or who she lived with,” he said, reflecting on the unexpected turn of events.
Garrett recalled the moment he spoke with Plante, stating, “I was stunned. I thought, ‘Oh my god. Okay, you ran away.’ We assumed someone had kidnapped you.”
Plante was last seen on May 15, 1994, reportedly on her way to a nearby stable. Her absence triggered a vast search effort, but authorities couldn’t find any solid leads. The case remained open, with investigators revisiting it every so often, but it ultimately went unsolved for years.
Garrett mentioned that he encountered clues leading him to an adult woman who he believed to be Plante and was able to make contact. The woman revealed her identity during the conversation.
Investigators learned that Plante left the country with the help of a relative she was in communication with at the time. “It was a long time ago,” Plante told Garrett. “She’s living an adult life now, has a family, and isn’t dwelling on her past,” he added.
Interestingly, Garrett remarked that it seems there are no family members in Star Valley currently looking for Plante.
Authorities have chosen not to disclose more specific details about her life during the time she was missing or the events leading to her departure, prioritizing Plante’s privacy.
This revelation significantly alters the narrative that surrounded her initial disappearance, which had long suspected foul play. The local sheriff’s office has been contacted for additional comment but has yet to respond.
