Teen Arrested After Human Remains Found in Suitcases
A teenager in Florida has been arrested and charged with murder following the discovery of human remains in suitcases. Authorities reported that the suspect inadvertently left behind crucial evidence linking him to the case.
The Palm Bay Police Department responded to a report about vultures circling over a closed and abandoned suitcase. Upon arrival, officers found a black suitcase partially concealed in tall grass, emitting a strong odor and containing human remains. A second suitcase with additional remains was also located.
Police quickly pointed to 19-year-old Lucas Sander Jones from Indialantic as a suspect after they found an Amazon package with his name inside one of the suitcases. They further discovered personal belongings that were connected to Jones.
Detectives noted that Jones was related to 28-year-old Corey Lee Daniel, who had been reported missing just six days prior. When police executed a search warrant, they located Jones at home with his girlfriend. He appeared to have various injuries, including bruises, but did not provide any explanations to the police.
Interestingly, Jones’ girlfriend revealed that she had seen Daniel lying in Jones’s bed while trying to wake him up. She also claimed that Jones instructed her to dispose of gray tote bags from her car at a Palm Bay location.
Further investigation at Jones’s residence uncovered blood stains and a knife. Initially, he faced felony charges related to the abuse of a corpse and evidence tampering, but after the investigation continued, the evidence led to a murder charge. Consequently, he was re-arrested and charged with second-degree murder, described by authorities as “dangerous and depraved without premeditation.”
According to another affidavit, Jones reportedly confessed to his girlfriend about wanting to kill a sex offender and had printed a list of registered offenders in the vicinity.
Authorities are still working to determine Jones’s precise motive. Some speculate that the suspect might have drawn inspiration from the fictional serial killer series “Dexter.” Local officials, meanwhile, noted that as the area develops, there may be more discoveries related to this crime.
