A middle school teacher from New Jersey is facing serious allegations of having an inappropriate relationship with a student. Ashley Fisler, 36, allegedly exhibited peculiar behaviors, particularly towards male students, as described by former students and their parents.
This former teacher at Orchard Valley Middle School, who worked there from 2014 until 2023, was reported to act in a “weird” way around boys, according to a former student who wished to remain anonymous. “It was obvious that something wasn’t right,” the now 20-year-old reflected. “She’d flirt with the boys on the football team and seemed to favor them, while treating the girls poorly.”
Allegations from past students suggest that Fisler was fixated on gaining the affection of male students, even following them on social media. “Every year, she definitely had a type,” a former student noted, explaining her choices seemed to lean toward the more attractive boys in sports.
One parent, Kelly De Angelis, criticized Fisler’s choice of clothing, describing it as more suitable for a night out than a classroom. Another parent, Tami Carr, shared an incident on Facebook where she saw Fisler dressed inappropriately while out in town with two boys.
Interestingly, Fisler’s husband proposed to her in an Orchard Valley classroom back in 2018. This same classroom is allegedly where she had sexual encounters with students, including six times in 2021 with one victim who was only 13 and 14 years old.
According to Gloucester County Prosecutor Kylie Finley, Fisler began grooming her victims when they were 12 years old. She reportedly continued to send explicit messages as recently as January. The prosecutor stated in court that there are about 7,500 pages of text messages between Fisler and one victim, who attempted to end the relationship, including exchanges of nude photos.
In a letter dated January 2, 2025, the victim expressed distress, writing, “I have to work hard to rebuild what you destroyed inside me. You stripped me of my innocence.”
Even after the victim attempted to sever ties, prosecutors allege that Fisler persisted in contacting him. Additionally, at least two other boys received inappropriate messages from her.
Fisler was emotional in court when her request for bail was denied. She now faces multiple charges, including six counts of sexual assault of a minor and others related to endangering a child’s welfare, with the most serious charge potentially leading to 20 years in prison.
Her attorney stated that Fisler plans to vigorously contest these allegations, asserting that the current narrative surrounding her is nothing more than unfounded gossip.
Fisler, who previously taught social studies, has since left that profession and reportedly started a business selling unofficial merchandise for the Philadelphia Eagles. Additionally, she has worked as a business manager for her husband’s landscaping business in Sewell, New Jersey.
A spokesperson for the school district acknowledged the charges against the former teacher and emphasized their commitment to student safety, but noted they couldn’t comment further while this legal matter is ongoing.
Fisler is set to appear in court again on May 14th.
