Home Invasion Incident in Oregon

A man with a long criminal history reportedly entered an Oregon family’s home and shouted, “Honey, I’m here,” before trying to assault the mother, who was holding her infant upstairs, according to police reports.

Judson DeFiel, 43, allegedly broke into a Portland residence around midday on March 15. Without hesitation, he ascended the stairs and yelled alarming phrases as detailed in an arrest affidavit.

Meanwhile, upstairs, the mother was working while cradling her 10-month-old baby, with her 3-year-old toddler nearby. DeFiel reportedly forced his way into the room, threw the mother onto the bed, and attempted to assault her in front of the children.

In the chaos, he supposedly pinned her down on the bed, still holding the baby. She somehow managed to convince him to place the baby in a crib. After that, she escaped and barricaded herself in a different room using a bookshelf, calling for help.

The woman’s husband, who was gardening outside, heard her screams and rushed into the house. By that time, DeFiel had already fled, leaving behind a scene of turmoil.

Just minutes earlier, before the home invasion, the suspect had reportedly entered a nearby church and assaulted a woman there. He then grabbed two other women outside as he made his way toward his own home.

Portland Police Chief Bob Day extended sympathy to the victims, acknowledging the bravery it took for them to come forward. He praised the police response, highlighting how quickly they managed to apprehend the suspect and help restore safety to the community.

DeFiel denied the allegations, oddly stating that he “accidentally bumped into” his mother inside the house, according to the affidavit.

That morning, he admitted to smoking meth before having breakfast at a nearby church.

He was arrested the same day and faces charges including attempted assault, kidnapping, and has outstanding warrants. Authorities have indicated that further investigations are ongoing, with additional charges likely to follow.

DeFiel’s past includes multiple arrests over the last 25 years for offenses such as fourth-degree assault and driving under the influence. He is currently being held without bail.
