Missing American woman Lynette Hooker identified after going overboard during boat ride with her husband in the Bahamas

A 55-year-old American woman, known for her passion for sailing and adventure, went missing after falling overboard during a boat trip in the Bahamas.

Lynette Hooker and her husband, Brian, 58, were in an eight-foot dinghy heading to their yacht, named Soulmate, when they fell into the water on Saturday night. Bahamian authorities reported that a strong current quickly swept Lynette away, leaving Brian unable to see her.

According to police, he reached the Port of Mercia marina around 4 AM on Sunday and informed someone that his wife had fallen overboard, prompting a search and rescue operation.

Lynette, a mother from Michigan and part of the couple known as Sailing Hookers, had the keys to their boat when the incident occurred. It’s unclear if she was wearing a life jacket at the time.

Prior to her disappearance, the couple had been capturing their travels on platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok. They often shared snippets of their life, claiming, “We’ve sailed away from BS. We’re a married couple living our best lives.”

Just hours before the incident, they posted a photo of a small boat moored at a pier, alongside a caption asking, “Aren’t you going anywhere for a while?!”

Recently, the couple faced some rough weather; one video highlighted their yacht struggling against heavy rain, which followed days spent diving and sailing in clear waters.

Carly Aylesworth, Lynette’s daughter, expressed her distress over the lacking information surrounding her mother’s unexpected disappearance. “My only concern is to find out what happened and to ensure a thorough investigation is conducted,” she stated.

As the Royal Bahamas Police Force investigates the case, Carly hopes for involvement from various authorities to thoroughly examine this unfortunate situation.

In light of these events, tourists visiting the Bahamas are advised to exercise caution. The State Department has also urged boaters to adhere to local weather forecasts and marine safety warnings.

A spokesperson mentioned that the government is collaborating with Bahamian officials to provide assistance in the matter.
