Boxer and social media personality Jake Paul expressed his grief over the passing of Charlie Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA, in a recent interview. Paul stated that he believed Kirk would have eventually been elected president if he had lived.
Paul noted that for Kirk, pursuing the presidency seemed to align with his purpose. “It was clear that Charlie Kirk was going to be the next president,” Paul conveyed to Theo Fung, sharing his own aspirations in that direction.
As a prominent influencer with millions of followers, Paul has successfully leveraged his online presence into a boxing career, business projects, and potentially politics. He has also been a vocal supporter of former President Donald Trump, who, during a rally in Hebron, Kentucky, offered his “full and complete support” should Paul decide to enter politics.
When discussing his political ambitions, Paul acknowledged his worries about safety in such a sphere, especially in light of Kirk’s tragic death. Kirk was shot and killed on September 10 while speaking at Utah Valley University.
Despite his hesitations, Paul remarked that engaging in politics has always appealed to him. He referenced the philosophy of Marcus Aurelius, emphasizing a civic duty to help society. “I think it’s about doing good for the common good,” he said.
Paul also expressed his concerns about the risks involved, suggesting he wouldn’t want to put himself in harm’s way. “If some idiot ran and objected, I would go to the game and risk being assassinated, and I don’t want to do that,” he said.
The interviewer noted a previous observation of Paul’s political aspirations, to which Paul responded, “There needs to be something in people… a sense of purpose.” He emphasized the importance of encouraging others to strive for improvement and not just act out of ego.
He reflected on the pressures that come with political involvement, mentioning that even Trump faced challenges in his role, which affected his family and loved ones. “Charlie would have been that guy too,” Paul lamented. “I’m so sad, brother. He’s so great.”
Though Paul didn’t know Kirk personally, he followed his social media closely and felt that Kirk was dedicated to his ambitions.
