House Democrat Plans to Impeach Pete Hegseth for Supposed War Crimes Against Iran

Impeachment Articles Against Army Secretary Announced

Representative Yasmin Ansari (D-Ariz.) revealed on Monday her plans to introduce articles of impeachment against Army Secretary Pete Hegseth, alleging that he has committed war crimes and jeopardized U.S. military personnel during President Donald Trump’s conflict with Iran.

In her statement, Ansari commented:

“Donald Trump’s troubling remarks, including those made on Easter Sunday, are pushing our nation deeper into what seems to be an endless war. He is threatening actions that violate U.S. law and the Geneva Conventions, adding to a list of unlawful acts that have caused destruction to schools, hospitals, and vital civilian infrastructure. It’s time for Republicans to join us in urging the president to halt this reckless war before it escalates. Much is at risk, and those who blindly follow him will bear responsibility for the consequences.”

“As the child of Iranian immigrants who escaped this regime and as a legislator dedicated to the U.S. Constitution, I can’t let this go on. The 25th Amendment is there for a reason, and his cabinet needs to consider its use. The future of the U.S. military, the Iranian people, and the global order is in jeopardy.”

She concluded by stating, “That’s why I’ll be introducing articles of impeachment against Pete Hegseth next week. He has consistently failed to uphold his oath and his constitutional duties. Congress alone has the authority to declare war—it’s not the role of a rogue president or his associates. Hegseth’s reckless behavior regarding U.S. personnel and repeated violations of war conduct, including bombing a girls’ school in Minab, Iran, and deliberately attacking civilian infrastructure, provide sufficient grounds for his impeachment and removal.”

Ansari is not the sole Democratic representative pursuing impeachment against Hegseth. Last year, Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-Mich.) also attempted to introduce impeachment articles concerning Pentagon leaders, though he did not push for a vote.

With Republicans holding the majority in both chambers of Congress, it would take a two-thirds majority in the Senate to convict Hegseth. While they haven’t directly called for impeachment, some Republicans have voiced concerns regarding the ongoing conflict with Iran.

Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) expressed his opposition to U.S. attacks on Iranian civilian targets, stating:

“I hope President Trump is just venting. I don’t want to see us start destroying civilian infrastructure. We’re not at war with the Iranian people; we’re trying to help them.”
