George Clooney Calls Trump a War Criminal Over Iranian Comments
Actor George Clooney has labeled President Donald Trump a war criminal following Trump’s assertion that he aimed to eliminate what he described as “the entire civilization” of oppressive Iranian Muslims.
Clooney, who has moved to Italy from the U.S., expressed his discontent with Trump’s remarks in a social media post that highlighted the threat to the Iranian regime, which he perceives as oppressive and a source of terror.
In a statement made on April 7 via his Truth Social account, Trump warned the Iranian leaders, stating, “An entire civilization will perish tonight and never come back. We don’t want that to happen, but it probably will. But now that complete and total regime change has taken place and a different, wiser, less radicalized mind prevails, maybe something revolutionary and wonderful may happen, who knows?”
Clooney, along with other left-wing figures, did not take kindly to the president’s words.
“Some people say Donald Trump is fine, but if someone says he wants to end civilization, that’s a war crime,” Clooney reportedly stated two days later. “You can support conservative ideas, but there is always a line of decency that you must not cross,” he added emphatically.
The actor also expressed concerns regarding Trump’s potential withdrawal of the United States from NATO, commenting, “I’m worried about NATO. It has ensured that not only Europe but other parts of the world are safe. Dismantling an organization like this worries me. Many mistakes aside, I believe that the United States is safe with NATO. He has achieved many extraordinary feats that have endured over time.”
However, considering Clooney’s history as a prominent anti-Trump advocate—having supported Joe Biden and his vice-president, Kamala Harris—his criticisms may carry a certain bias.
Ultimately, despite Clooney’s strong words, Trump managed to broker a ceasefire with Iran, resulting in a boost for stock prices and a decline in oil prices. He also completed the punitive measures against Iran within the expected six-week timeframe.
