Trump warns of investigation into CNN after its 'fake news' coverage of Iran ceasefire deal

Trump Critiques CNN’s Reporting on US-Iran Ceasefire

President Donald Trump has expressed strong criticism regarding a recent two-week ceasefire announcement between the US and Iran. He labeled the associated reports as “fraudulent,” suggesting that federal authorities may soon look into potential criminal activities by the network.

His remarks were sparked by a CNN headline that claimed Iran had achieved a “great victory,” implying that the US had conceded to its demands. Yet, the administration contends that this narrative is based on sensationalized rhetoric from foreign sources rather than reputable diplomatic discussions.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump pointed out that CNN was merely disseminating “fake news” from a disreputable source.

According to CNN, Iranian state media asserted that Iran had compelled the US to agree to a “10-point plan,” which included the total withdrawal of American troops from the region. Trump dismissed these assertions as fabrications and directed public attention to the official Iranian statements shared via Truth Social to clarify the administration’s stance.

The administration emphasized that both nations had agreed to examine each other’s peace initiatives, including a 15-point proposal put forth by the US, as a framework for future negotiations.

Despite this, Trump argued that the reported contradictions indicated possible criminal liabilities for the media, suggesting that a federal inquiry into their actions might be warranted.

In a subsequent update on Wednesday, Trump cautioned against any misleading or inaccurate statements concerning the fragile ceasefire agreement, especially as it was nearing its expiration.

A CNN spokesperson responded, stating, “The information at hand was sourced from Iranian officials and corroborated by several Iranian media outlets.” They added that they had obtained a quote from a specific Iranian government representative known to them.
