White Sox to Celebrate Dedicated Fan Pope Leo XIV with Unique Hat

White Sox to Honor First American Pope with Special Giveaway

This August, the Chicago White Sox will pay tribute to Leo XIV, the first American Pope from Chicago, by offering fans a unique hat.

Those who buy special tickets for the White Sox game on August 11 against the Cincinnati Reds will receive a special “White Sox-themed papal hat” to celebrate Pope Leo XIV, a Chicago native and avid White Sox supporter.

To snag the black and green hat featuring the White Sox logo, fans will need to purchase tickets in designated sections of Lehto Field. If they miss out on that, well, they might need to rely on a prayer to get one, according to reports.

The discussion surrounding Pope Leo’s fan allegiance was recently clarified by his brother, John Prevost, who stated he has been a White Sox fan “all my life.” He expressed surprise at any rumors suggesting otherwise, noting that while their mother supported the Cubs, Pope Leo was always loyal to the Sox.

A photograph even captured Pope Leo at the 2005 World Series, where the White Sox triumphed over the Houston Astros. His dedication to his hometown team remained strong throughout his papacy.

Last summer, for instance, he was seen wearing a White Sox cap in Vatican City, playfully chanting “We lost” when Cubs fans cheered for their team. Moreover, just last month, he gave a thumbs up to a fan who yelled, “God bless the White Sox,” as he drove past.

While the Chicago White Sox are undoubtedly the Pope’s favorite team, a peculiar theory emerged during the recent NFL season suggesting a divine connection between Pope Leo XIV and the Seattle Seahawks.

This theory took shape during the 2025 NFL Playoffs as the Seahawks moved closer to the NFC Championship Game, catching the attention of fans who noticed a pattern: every time a new pope was elected, the Seahawks seemed to make it to the Super Bowl.

For instance, when Pope Benedict XVI was elected in 2005, the Seahawks made it to Super Bowl XL, but they lost to the Steelers. Conversely, following Pope Francis’ election in 2013, the Seahawks clinched victory against the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII. Now, with Pope Leo XIV as the new pope, fans wonder what this could mean for the team.

This Super Bowl season took on an intriguing tone, particularly after the Seahawks secured a significant win against the New England Patriots.
