U.S. Embassy Advises Americans to Shelter in Bahrain Amid Security Concerns
The U.S. embassy in Bahrain has urged Americans living in the country to shelter in place. This directive comes as the embassy in Egypt also raises alarms over potential threats from Iran and its terrorist affiliates, particularly towards American universities in the Middle East.
In Manama, the embassy has recommended that all U.S. government personnel and citizens move to secure locations and avoid windows until further notice.
“There are indications that Iran and its associated terrorist groups may target American universities in Bahrain,” the embassy stated. “Iran has specifically made threats against U.S. universities throughout the region.”
The embassy has also provided guidance for Americans seeking to exit the Middle East.
The embassy highlighted that “if you wish to depart, the U.S. government is prepared to assist with updated information on available exit options.”
Additionally, the embassy advised those opting to stay put to stock up on essential supplies, including food, water, and medication.
“We encourage all Americans to remain vigilant, follow the instructions of local authorities, and stay informed through official channels,” the embassy added.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Embassy in Cairo has urged citizens to closely follow news updates regarding the situation. They noted, “Egyptian authorities usually maintain effective security. However, extremist groups and Iranian-aligned forces have shown interest in conducting attacks within the region.”
Overall, concerns about potential threats from Iran and its affiliates have put many Americans on alert as tensions in the region escalate.
