Husband of Lynette Hooker, the American woman who went missing in the Bahamas, will stay in jail as police consider criminal charges.

The fate of Brian Hooker, husband of missing American rower Lynette Hooker, remains uncertain as police are set to decide by Monday whether to bring charges against him. Lynette went overboard while the couple was out boating in the Bahamas, and authorities have stated that he will stay in jail in Freeport until at least 7 PM on Monday.

According to Brian’s attorney, Terrell A. Butler, authorities took him into custody about a week after Lynette’s disappearance. She was 55 when she went missing in a dinghy.

On Friday evening, police were facing a deadline to either charge Mr. Hooker, release him, or request an extension for his detention, as Bahamian law stipulates that those in custody must be charged within 48 hours.

Questions have arisen regarding the couple’s trip to the Bahamas, especially following Brian’s emotional claims about his stepdaughter Carly Aylesworth’s erratic behavior just hours before Lynette fell overboard. Carly expressed her concerns to various media outlets this week, hinting at a troubling past involving domestic violence.

Carly stated that her stepfather had a history of “strangling” her mother and even threatened to throw her overboard at one point. “There’s been a lot of fighting and drinking lately,” she mentioned, reinforcing her skepticism toward Brian’s perspective.

“I’m wondering what really happened in that dinghy,” she reflected.

While Brian denies any involvement in Lynette’s disappearance, he also refutes Carly’s allegations, as stated by his lawyer.

Interestingly, records from over a decade ago reveal that Lynette, originally from Michigan, once spent a night in jail after an altercation with her husband. However, she was released due to a lack of evidence regarding who initiated the incident.

In the weeks leading up to Lynette’s disappearance, the couple had been sharing their boating adventures on social media. However, on the day of the incident, Lynette reportedly fell into the water while holding the boat’s keys, leading to the engine cutting out and her being swept away by the currents. Brian eventually made it back to shore but only reported Lynette missing the following morning.

After an initial search failed to locate her, the focus shifted from rescue efforts to recovery.
