Tragic Shooting in North Carolina
A man from North Carolina was fatally shot while bravely shielding his 8-month-old baby during an assault outside his home late at night.
Devonelle Brimage was sitting in the front seat of her car parked in her driveway in Plymouth, holding her infant as gunfire erupted around them.
His family has shared the heartbreaking news of his death, and a GoFundMe campaign has been initiated to help with funeral expenses.
“In his last moments, he displayed remarkable bravery and love, using his body to protect his baby,” the family remarked.
“This act alone illustrates the kind of person he was: selfless, protective, and deeply loving toward his family,” they continued.
The Plymouth Police Department reported that the incident took place around 1:34 a.m.
Brimage, aged 36, was declared dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, the baby was quickly taken to Washington Regional Medical Center, where she received care for non-life-threatening injuries before being released.
Additionally, another man, 38, was found wounded in the back seat of the car and was transported to a hospital.
This investigation is ongoing, with the Plymouth Police receiving support from the North Carolina Bureau of Investigation and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
Brimage left behind a large family, including 11 children and 11 siblings, and is remembered fondly as a “devoted father and brother.”
A GoFundMe campaign has raised over half of its $5,000 target so far.
“Please keep Mr. DeBonell’s family in your thoughts and prayers, especially his children. Even if you can’t contribute, sharing this fundraiser would be greatly appreciated,” the family urged.
