Trump Criticizes Pope Leo XIV for Not Being Tough on Crime

Trump Critiques Pope Leo

In a post on Truth Social, Trump expressed a preference for Pope Leo’s younger brother over the Pope himself. He voiced concerns about a pope who, in his view, supports Iran’s nuclear ambitions and is against U.S. actions towards Venezuela.

“Pope Leo is weak on crime and has an awful foreign policy,” Trump remarked. He pointed out that while the Pope talks about the ‘fear of the Trump administration,’ he overlooks the fears faced by the Catholic Church and other Christian groups during COVID-19, when many were arrested for holding services.

He reiterated his stance, stating, “I don’t want a pope who thinks it’s okay for Iran to have nuclear weapons,” and emphasized his disapproval of the Pope’s stance on Venezuela, which he claims contributes to drug problems in the U.S.

Trump further mentioned he doesn’t appreciate the Pope’s criticism, insisting he’s fulfilling his election promises.

In another part of his post, he added:

Pope Leo should feel fortunate. His rise was unexpected, and the Church added him to the papal candidate list mainly due to his American background, thinking it would help manage my presidency. If I weren’t in the White House, Leo wouldn’t be in the Vatican. I’m concerned about his stances on crime and nuclear threats, and I find it troubling that he associates with people like David Axelrod, who pushed for the arrest of clergy.

Trump urged Pope Leo to “get his act together,” advocating for common sense and to stop catering to the radical left.

This criticism comes as Pope Leo has been vocal against the war in Iran. Reports highlight his calls for peace and dialogue rather than conflict, stressing that true peace comes through understanding, not force.
