33-year-old woman dies at NYC courthouse after multiple withdrawal episodes following drug possession arrest.

A woman, 33 years old, passed away on Sunday at a Brooklyn courthouse after experiencing drug withdrawal symptoms. This came after she had been taken to the hospital multiple times, according to authorities in New York City.

Zamiqua Miller was arrested late Friday on charges related to the possession of heroin, crack cocaine, and a crack pipe. Reports indicate she had three active warrants out for her arrest.

Throughout Saturday, Miller was transported to a local hospital two times due to her withdrawal symptoms. However, she was returned to Brooklyn Central Booking after each visit, only to face issues again on Sunday morning.

While waiting for arraignment, Miller reportedly started to show symptoms again. Emergency responders were called, but despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead around 7:20 a.m.

Records show that Miller had been arrested 23 times prior, facing charges that included drug possession, burglary, petty theft, and bail jumping.

This incident marks at least the fourth death of an individual in city custody this year, involving both NYPD and Department of Corrections detainees.

Earlier this year, on March 22, Vincent Thoms died in police custody at Manhattan Central Booking after suffering a medical episode related to a petty theft charge from a CVS in Harlem. Another case involved a 39-year-old man, Barry Cozart, who died at Rikers Island after staff found him in need of medical assistance on March 25. He, too, could not be saved despite CPR being administered.

Furthermore, on March 28, John Price, a suspected drug ring leader, was taken off Rikers Island to Elmhurst Hospital for treatment after asking guards for medical attention. Sadly, he died several hours later at the hospital.
