Eric Swalwell Steps Down: Rep. Anna Paulina Luna Cautions About Possible Criminal Charges

Eric Swalwell announced his resignation from Congress on Monday following serious allegations of sexual misconduct, igniting a wave of intense speculation among lawmakers across the political spectrum. Washington, D.C., is abuzz with reactions.

In his solemn written statement, Swalwell expressed regret for his actions and acknowledged a “mistake in judgment,” but he denied the most severe allegations, including claims of rape from a former staff member.

However, his efforts to manage the narrative quickly fell apart.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna from Florida criticized Swalwell in a series of posts on social media, suggesting that his resignation was only the tip of the iceberg.

“You had a reason for your expulsion, so don’t deny it,” Luna remarked in a biting comment.

“His choice to step down was correct, but a comprehensive criminal investigation is still necessary. I’ve heard he could potentially face prison time,” she added.

Luna didn’t stop there. She hinted that more damaging information regarding Swalwell was about to emerge.

In a follow-up, she warned her followers to brace for what was coming next: “I hear there’s more shocking stuff on the way.”

The day after Swalwell’s resignation, a woman claiming serious sexual misconduct will hold a press conference in Beverly Hills, further fueling the scandal that has rocked Capitol Hill.

Support for Swalwell quickly eroded, even from within his party. Arizona Senator Ruben Gallego, who previously referred to Swalwell as his “best friend,” expressed his shock on social media: “To be clear, I had no prior knowledge of the allegations against Mr. Swalwell,” he wrote. “I thought I knew him, but it appears I was mistaken.”

Before his resignation, Swalwell was already under investigation by the House Ethics Committee.

Lawmakers from both sides were reportedly considering an expulsion vote, a move that could bring further humiliation and effectively end Swalwell’s political career.

In the 237-year history of the House, only six members have been expelled, the most recent being former Republican Rep. George Santos in 2023.

However, resigning might not shield him from future consequences.

The scandal has also been amplified by a recently circulated video allegedly showing Swalwell with a sex worker, increasing scrutiny over his conduct.

“Eric, can you clarify who filmed the video of the female sex worker?” Rep. Luna inquired on social media.

Swalwell’s political downfall could soon become even more severe as calls for a criminal investigation intensify, with colleagues publicly suggesting prison time may be on the horizon.

This news follows Swalwell’s surprising announcement that he was stepping back from the California gubernatorial race.
