Businessman and wife die in plane crash returning from Final Four game: 'Together in love'

Tragic Plane Crash Claims Lives of Arizona Couple

A businessman and his wife from Arizona lost their lives in a plane crash while returning home from a Final Four tournament in Indianapolis.

Chris Sieff, a real estate developer, was trying to land his Piper PA-32 single-engine aircraft at Marana Airport last Wednesday when the plane veered off the runway and caught fire, according to reports.

Both Chris and his wife, Jack, were on their way back after supporting the University of Arizona Wildcats basketball team during the tournament.

“It’s somewhat comforting to know they left this world together,” wedding photographer Echo Chanel Starmarker expressed in a condolence post on Instagram.

“Be united in love until the end.”

Chris Sieff wasn’t just a real estate developer; he also served as the financial director of Rio Nuevo, an investment group in Tucson.

“He loved life, he loved Jack, and he had a passion for flying,” said Fletcher McCusker, president of Rio Nuevo.

He added that they often discussed their shared love for aviation, emphasizing how unforgiving the sky can be.

“Describing Chris as irreplaceable would be an understatement. We need time to mourn,” McCusker stated.

He concluded his message with the saying, “Ars longa, vita brevis,” which translates to “art is long, life is short.”

Rep. Juan Siscomani (R-Ariz.) acknowledged Chris’s decades-long commitment to making the American Dream achievable as a home builder.

“Chris was a dear friend and a wise, thoughtful man who generously invested his time in others and in causes he cared about,” he continued.

His work with organizations such as Rio Nuevo and the Southern Arizona Home Builders Association showcased his deep commitment to the community he had called home for over 50 years.

The plane had taken off from Springerville Airport just 80 minutes before the tragic crash. Earlier that day, it had made a stop in Springerville after departing from Elk City, Oklahoma.

An investigation into the crash is currently underway.
