Nike Basketball Launches Player-Exclusive Shoe for Bronny James
Nike Basketball has unveiled a new product, the Nike LeBron Witness IX PE. Released on Monday, this player-exclusive colorway pays tribute to Bronny James. The shoe not only represents the young LA Lakers guard and his legendary father but also reflects Bronny’s journey as a survivor who has faced multiple challenges in pursuit of his NBA aspirations.
This latest sneaker, the second in its series, adopts a more subtle design. It features a tonal upper with varied textures, along with red accents and his name, “Bronny,” displayed on the toe, and his logo positioned on the heel.
Earlier this year, Nike quietly began the trademark process for Bronny’s logo. Now, it has made its debut on the Witness IX platform.
Bronny James’ ascent from being the son of one of the greatest players in NBA history to a budding star with the Lakers has been anything but predictable. After choosing to play at the University of Southern California, he faced a defining moment when he collapsed during practice on July 24, 2023, due to cardiac arrest caused by a congenital heart defect. This incident cast doubt on his basketball future.
However, less than five months later, he returned to the court, making his collegiate debut with the Trojans. Following his freshman year, he declared for the 2024 NBA Draft, where the Lakers selected him in the second round, 55th overall. Notably, in October, LeBron and Bronny made history as the first father-son duo to play together in the NBA.
The Witness IX PE seems to capture a transitional moment—moving away from LeBron’s signature line to focus on its future potential. It tells a story of generational passing and highlights Nike’s commitment to the entire James family.
In addition, Nike has re-released the Kobe 11 Protro “Fade to Black,” commemorating the shoe worn by Kobe Bryant in his final regular-season NBA game, now marking a decade since that memorable occasion. They’ve also announced the upcoming Nike Kobe 5 Protro “Dodgers,” blending LA baseball hues with Kobe legacy, set to be released in the fall.
