Guy Fieri Responds to Controversy Over UFC Encounter
Guy Fieri has addressed the backlash after being seen greeting Andrew and Tristan Tate at a UFC event, claiming he wasn’t aware of who they were.
The celebrity chef was spotted briefly interacting with the Tates, who faced serious allegations including rape and human trafficking last year, during UFC 327 on April 11 at Miami’s Caseya Center. The event also drew notable attendees, such as President Trump.
Videos and photos circulated on social media showing Fieri shaking hands and bumping shoulders with Andrew Tate.
In a statement responding to the controversy, Fieri expressed his dismay at the comments about the photos from the UFC event.
“I’m looking at all of your comments and all I can say is I’m devastated,” he wrote on X. “I was there to watch the game, and as I was walking through the venue, the Tate brothers stood up and said hello. That’s when the interaction happened. Until that moment, I didn’t know them or anything about them.”
He added, “I’m not going to pretend to be a perfect person by any means, but just to be clear, I don’t know the Tate brothers and I don’t support them in any way.”
The Tate brothers are currently under investigation for multiple criminal charges across various countries, including the UK, where they face a total of 21 charges related to rape and human trafficking. Recently, a Romanian court eased some restrictions on them as the case unfolds, although both deny all accusations.
They were born in the U.S. but moved to the UK with their mother following their parents’ divorce. Andrew Tate first gained notoriety in 2016 after being expelled from Big Brother due to a video showing him hitting a woman with a belt.
Since then, he has built a substantial online following, particularly among young men, promoting a lifestyle defined by wealth and hypermasculinity. The Tates are often associated with a controversial online space criticized for its misogynistic content, boasting a combined following of nearly 15 million users on X.
Fieri’s public relations efforts seem to have taken a hit, as he canceled scheduled media appearances following the incident. These were tied to a partnership with Waterloo Sparkling Water, which he was set to commemorate after two years. Additionally, he is still recovering from an injury sustained last year when he fell while filming Flavortown Food Fight.
This year, Fieri also surprised fans with a bold look change for his birthday, featuring an AI-generated video that showed him with a neat brunette hairstyle and clean-shaven face, moving away from his signature spiky blonde hair and goatee.
