Jessica McClure Morales, widely recognized as “Baby Jessica” for her dramatic rescue in Texas back in 1987, has posted a somewhat vague message on Facebook about “letting go,” just days after her arrest for domestic assault.
In her post, the 40-year-old reflects, “Note to self: Happiness means letting go of assumptions about how your life should be right now and being truly grateful for everything that is.”
She continues, saying, “So relax. Reset. You’ve had enough. Enough is enough. Take a deep breath. Let go and just live in the moment.” Morales, a mother of two, is married.
There hasn’t been any further clarification on her post, and it remains uncertain if she was referring to her husband, Daniel Morales, with whom she has been for 20 years.
Details about her arrest on Saturday evening—following disturbances reported at her home in Midland, Texas—have not been disclosed.
This incident occurs almost four decades after her miraculous escape from an abandoned well that captivated global attention during a tense 60-hour rescue operation.
At just 18 months old, Jessica had wandered into her aunt’s backyard, crawled into a narrow pipe, and fell 22 feet down into the well.
Rescuers eventually managed to save her by digging a tunnel into an adjacent section of the rock.
Her story gained worldwide media coverage, and former President Ronald Reagan labeled her “America’s Child.”
The rescue even inspired a “The Simpsons” episode where Bart Simpson falls into a well and is saved by the musician Sting.
After her harrowing experience, McClure Morales lost a toe due to gangrene and underwent over a dozen surgeries.
In a personal tragedy, she was devastated by the brutal murder of her father’s stepdaughter, Gracie Adams, earlier this year.
Gracie, only 25, was found dead in her Nashville residence, with her girlfriend, Sarah Stacy, charged in connection with the crime.
Although there’s an ongoing lawsuit, McClure Morales has remained silent about this shocking event.
