Vice President Vance Addresses Fraud Efforts
Vice President J.D. Vance, leading the Anti-Fraud Task Force, emphasized that “no fraud is too big or too small.” He reiterated the task force’s commitment to targeting offenders, regardless of how much they steal from taxpayers.
At a recent Turning Point USA event at the University of Georgia, Vance highlighted the task force’s early successes.
“If you’re defrauding taxpayers, you should go to jail, and those who assist should face consequences too.”
In mid-March, President Trump ordered the formation of this committee to confront fraud. Since then, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services have worked together with the task force, resulting in the closure of numerous fraudulent health care providers.
During his speech on Tuesday, Vance pointed to pervasive fraud in the Minneapolis area and how the task force halted a government assistance program for children with autism that had faced prevalent misuse. He stated, “We completely stopped funding that program, and we basically told the state of Minnesota, ‘Unless you prove that you take fraud seriously, you’re not going to receive any more of our funding.'” The audience responded with applause.
The federal government had previously announced a withholding of $259.5 million in Medicaid funding from Minnesota due to fraud issues.
At the same event, Vance commended CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz’s commitment to tackling fraud. He recalled a recent call where Dr. Oz mentioned he was heading out to arrest scammers in Los Angeles, which he found encouraging.
Vance criticized the prior administration’s lax approach towards smaller fraud cases, explaining that under Trump’s leadership, the focus has shifted drastically. “No fraud is too big or too small. If you’re defrauding taxpayers, you should go to jail,” he reiterated.
As of Wednesday, the task force has paused operations for 447 hospices and 23 home health agencies in Los Angeles, with fraud estimates reaching over $600 million.
Dr. Oz declared, “With @VP’s leadership, we are eliminating fraud faster than ever before.”
