Tragic Incident in Georgia Involves DHS Employee’s Death
A disturbing murder took place in Georgia, where a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) staff member was fatally attacked by an immigrant who had been naturalized during former President Joe Biden’s tenure. The victim, Lauren Bliss, an inspector general with the DHS, was shot and stabbed on Monday morning while out walking her dog in Atlanta, as announced by DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin. The suspect has been identified as 26-year-old Olaorkitan Adon Abel.
Secretary Mullin shared on Twitter, “On Monday, DHS employee Lauren Bliss was brutally shot and stabbed to death by Olaorkitan Adon Abel, a 26-year-old British-born citizen who was naturalized by the Biden administration in 2022.”
In a troubling series of events, Adon Abel also went on a violent spree, resulting in the death of a 31-year-old woman near a Checkers restaurant.
The Secretary described Adon Abel as someone who was naturalized in 2022 and now stands accused of murdering Lauren Bliss while she was simply walking her dog.
“He is now accused of fatally shooting his employee, Lauren Bliss, while she was walking her dog,” Secretary Mullin added.
Brookhaven Police Chief Brandon Gurley noted that there were other shootings linked to this case. A 911 call about a shooting was received just before 2 a.m., and officers arrived within three minutes.
Officers provided assistance to a 49-year-old man, identified as part of the “unhoused community,” who had been shot multiple times outside the Cherokee Shopping Plaza. He is currently in critical condition in the hospital. The police chief pointed out that the assailant fired from a vehicle while the victim was asleep and characterized the incident as random.
Police were able to connect the three shootings, finding that the same silver Volkswagen Jetta was used in all cases.
Chief Padrick stated there’s no ongoing danger to the community, though the investigation is still active. He mentioned that authorities are looking into the reasons and context surrounding the crimes.
Marin claimed Adon Abel has an extensive criminal background, including sexual assault, assault on a police officer, obstruction, and more. He referred to these acts as deeply troubling.
“These acts of pure evil have devastated our ministry. Our prayers are with the families of the victims,” Marin said.
The identities of the other two victims remain undisclosed.
