ICE Director Lyons hands in resignation letter to DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin

Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons Resigns

Todd Lyons, the Acting Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), has submitted his resignation to Homeland Secretary Markwayne Mullin. He plans to stay in his role until May 31 to help with the transition, as confirmed by various sources.

In his resignation letter, Lyons expressed a desire to spend more time with his family, particularly his sons, who are at significant stages in their lives. He stated that it was an honor to serve under President Donald Trump.

Mullin praised Lyons as a strong leader, noting his critical role in removing those who pose a threat to society, such as violent criminals and gang members. He acknowledged that Lyons had reinvigorated the agency after years of constraints, contributing to safer communities.

Since taking on his role last year, Lyons has overseen around 584,000 deportations. His career spans 20 years with ICE and includes service in the U.S. Air Force Special Forces.

Tom Homan, a key figure in President Trump’s administration, commended Lyons for his selflessness and the significant achievements under his leadership, including record deportations while facing unprecedented challenges. Homan admired Lyons’ dedication to protecting the nation.

White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy, Stephen Miller, also lauded Lyons as a patriot and an essential leader in efforts to secure the nation. His work at ICE, he added, has saved many lives and brought safety to countless Americans.

As Lyons prepares to leave his position, he has received best wishes for his future endeavors, though his departure will mark the end of a notable chapter in ICE’s recent history.
