Kennedy Comments on Trump’s Mental Health in Congressional Hearing

On Friday, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Secretary of Health and Human Services, responded to concerns about President Trump’s mental health during a Congressional hearing. He pointed out former President Joe Biden’s “delusional” behavior as a comparison.

Rep. Mark Takano (D-Calif.) questioned Kennedy regarding Trump’s recent posts on social media where he made threatening remarks about Iran and referred to himself in almost Christ-like terms. Takano suggested these actions indicated a potential mental illness in the president.

“Many Americans are questioning this president’s mental state and his overall ability to fulfill his responsibilities. Do you share these worries?” Takano asked Kennedy.

“I would like to warn you…” Kennedy started, but Takano quickly interrupted him.

“Secretary, I’m asking if you have concerns about his mental health,” the Congressman reiterated, stressing the importance of having leaders in control of their mental faculties, especially when sending troops into challenging situations.

“There are millions of Americans now wondering if this president thinks he is Jesus Christ,” Takano continued. “Given the evidence I’ve presented today, would you advocate for a mental health evaluation for President Trump?”

Kennedy firmly replied, “No way.”

Takano then inquired if Kennedy would support invoking the 25th Amendment, which permits the removal of a president deemed incompetent, should Trump fail a mental fitness examination.

“There has never been a more sane and stable president…” Kennedy began to say, but again, he was interrupted.

“Mr. Secretary, my question is, would you vote to invoke the 25th Amendment?” Takano pressed further.

In his response, Kennedy pointed to Biden. “Please watch this week’s video of President Biden. He’s the one you should be concerned about.”

“He’s delusional,” Kennedy asserted about the 83-year-old Biden.

Kennedy elaborated, referencing a recent awkward moment where Biden mistook a person for Barack Obama at Syracuse University. This incident seemed to underscore his point about Biden’s mental lapses.

“Barack, what are you doing?” Biden had reportedly asked the school’s board chairman, who appeared confused, as Biden suggested to the audience that the man resembled the former president.
