Tory Lanez Files Lawsuit Against California Corrections Department
Tory Lanez is seeking significant damages in a newly revealed lawsuit against the California Department of Corrections, asking for $1 million for each stab wound he sustained. This comes on the heels of his incarceration at the California Men’s Colony in San Luis Obispo, where he is serving time for the fatal shooting of Megan Thee Stallion.
According to Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, prison officials failed to safeguard him during an attack in May 2025, when he was stabbed 16 times by fellow inmate Santino Casio at CCI Tehachapi.
The lawsuit alleges that Lanez suffered serious injuries, including multiple stab wounds across his back and torso, two collapsed lungs, and lasting scars, details revealed in documents obtained by the California Post.
The claim argues that the decision to place Casio in the same facility as Lanez was known to be risky. Casio is serving a life sentence for a violent crime involving the murder of a pregnant teenager while on parole.
Lanez believes his celebrity status made him a target and asserts that security response to the stabbing was alarmingly delayed.
“There was a real lack of response during the attack,” the lawsuit states, noting that no measures such as flash or smoke grenades were used to prevent further harm.
Incommunicated during the ordeal, Lanez described a harrowing experience in the hospital, including the confiscation of a songbook containing valuable, unpublished lyrics by an attacking prison guard.
His lawsuit seeks $100 million in total compensation, which encompasses damages for each stab wound as well as claims for the impact of his injuries on his career, and emotional distress.
The legal team represents that Lanez has faced trauma, diminished reputation, and ongoing safety threats, but it’s still unclear exactly who should bear responsibility.
Lanez is currently serving a 10-year sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion following an argument in 2020 when they were attending a party at Kylie Jenner’s home.
In what became a chaotic situation, Megan was shot in the leg after exiting an SUV on the sidewalk. Lanez, who insists on his innocence, was found guilty of several charges including assault and illegal firearm possession. He is awaiting sentencing set for 2023.
As of now, the California Department of Corrections has not provided a comment regarding the lawsuit.
