Alan Osmond, the eldest of the famous Osmond family, died at 8:30 p.m. on Monday at his home in Utah. He was 76 years old.

A family spokesperson mentioned that Alan’s wife, Suzanne, along with their eight sons, were present when he passed. He had been living with multiple sclerosis for around 40 years, although the exact cause of his death has not been disclosed.

As the oldest member of the Osmond family, Alan played a pivotal role in elevating the group to teen idol status during the 1960s and 1970s. While his younger siblings, Donnie and Marie, became the most recognizable faces of the family, Alan’s influence was essential for their success.

He was actively involved in shaping the band’s creative output, contributing as both a songwriter and a musician, playing both piano and guitar. The family toured extensively across the United States and became a fixture on television variety shows during that time.

On Facebook, Alan’s younger brother, Merrill Osmond, shared a heartfelt tribute. He recounted, “Just two days before Alan’s passing, I had the opportunity to sit quietly with him. We shared some deep conversations, and despite his struggles, a joke I told made him laugh, and he smiled.”

Merrill expressed his determination to keep Alan’s legacy alive. Reflecting on a touching moment, he said, “He leaned in and whispered to me, urging, ‘Meryl, we poured our hearts into our work together. Please let people know what we were trying to convey.’ His request will be honored.” He added, “Alan has now moved on to be with his Heavenly Father, and his life was defined by love, sacrifice, and purpose, not just the number of years.”

Merrill concluded with an uplifting message, encouraging fans not to be saddened. “Celebrate the fact that he is free now, no longer in pain, and at peace at home.”

Beyond his musical accomplishments, Alan was known for his kindness and commitment to philanthropy. He co-founded the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon, an initiative that has raised over $2 billion for children’s hospitals. He also established the One Heart Foundation to aid orphans.

Alan is survived by his wife of 51 years, Suzanne, and their sons—Michael, Nathan, Doug, David, Scott, John, Alex, and Tyler—as well as a large devoted family that includes 30 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
