Ramaswamy’s Gubernatorial Bid in Ohio

Vivek Ramaswamy, the Republican contender for the governorship of Ohio, is following through on a promise made during last summer’s campaign. The billionaire biotech entrepreneur has notably contributed $25 million of his own funds to gubernatorial races this year. Ramaswamy initially gained prominence while running for the Republican presidential nomination in the 2024 cycle but later withdrew to support Donald Trump as a surrogate candidate.

His investment is part of a recent fundraising report indicating a record haul of $50 million since the launch of his campaign last year. Out of this, $30 million was amassed this year alone, with $5 million sourced from contributors and the remaining $25 million coming from Ramaswamy’s own wallet.

The fundraising details were first released on Fox News Digital and show that Ramaswamy had around $30 million in campaign resources as of late last month. Furthermore, the American Exceptionalism PAC, which supports him, reported $29.5 million in funding for this quarter.

Ohio Governor Race Dynamics

Jonathan Ewing, Ramaswamy’s campaign manager, expressed that the figures reflect unprecedented support in the history of Ohio’s gubernatorial races. He stated that this signals a passionate base of support for Ramaswamy, suggesting that the campaign is gaining momentum with expectations of a significant win in November.

As the Ohio primary approaches next month, Ramaswamy boasts a considerable fundraising edge over his Democratic opponent, Amy Acton, who is a former state health secretary and a practicing physician. The winner of the gubernatorial race will take over from Republican Gov. Mike DeWine, who is unable to run due to term limits.

In recent years, Ohio has become more conservative, having shifted to the right as evidenced by Trump’s 11-point lead in the state during the last presidential election. However, the upcoming races for both the governorship and a Senate seat are anticipated to be intensely competitive. According to the Cook Report, which analyzes political contests, the governor’s race currently leans towards the Republicans—a sign of a challenging contest for Democrats.

Ramaswamy previously committed to investing up to $30 million into his campaign, asserting that his current $25 million contribution serves as a solid start toward that goal.

Acton’s Strong Fundraising

On the other side, Acton’s campaign recently revealed that it has garnered $9.3 million, which it claims is the largest amount raised by any Democratic gubernatorial candidate in Ohio to date. Notably, $4.8 million of that was raised in just the initial three months of this year.

Her campaign manager, Philip Stein, asserted that this fundraising success indicates excitement among Ohio voters—spanning independents and Republicans alike—for Acton’s candidacy.

Ramaswamy, endorsed by Trump since launching his campaign, has leveraged his financial advantage to run advertisements statewide. Earlier this year, he initiated a $10 million ad campaign and plans to sustain these efforts up until Election Day in November.

“Vivek has already far exceeded all financial benchmarks from recent gubernatorial contests,” the campaign highlighted.

Ramaswamy’s campaign also emphasized its grassroots fundraising efforts, reporting over 392,000 donations from more than 120,000 unique contributors, with an average donation of around $63. Notably, donations under $200 comprised over 98% of total contributions.

Looking forward, the campaign is planning further fundraising initiatives, including an event in Columbus that’s anticipated to raise over $1 million.
