250th Celebration of America: President Trump to Recite Scripture for 'America Reads the Bible'

Trump to Read Bible Verses as Part of Initiative

President Trump is set to read several Bible verses Tuesday night, contributing to the “America Reads the Bible” initiative. This program runs from April 18th to April 25th and will see Christian leaders, government officials, and celebrities each taking turns to read the entire Bible daily from 9 AM to 9 PM ET.

This event, backed by the nonprofit Christian Engaged and in partnership with Great American Pure Flix, aims to bring a sense of reverence ahead of this summer’s 250th anniversary celebration of America. The readings will take place at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C.

On that night, Trump will read from 2 Chronicles 7:11-22, which features the well-known verse that encourages humility and prayer for healing: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” This will be done in the Oval Office.

So Solomon completed the house of the Lord and the house of the king. All that Solomon planned to do in the house of the Lord and in his own house, he successfully accomplished. “I have heard your prayers, and have chosen this place for myself as a sacrificial house. If I shut up the heavens so that it does not rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence upon the people, then my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves. Now I will hear My voice from heaven, and will forgive their sins, and heal their land. My eyes will be opened, and my ears will listen to the prayers that are made in this place. I have chosen and consecrated this home now so that my eyes and my heart will be there forever. And I will establish your throne, even as I made a covenant with David your father, obeying everything I have commanded you and keeping my rules, just as David your father walked to rule Israel. But if you turn away and forsake My statutes and commandments, which I have set before you, and go and serve other gods and worship them, then I will take away My land that I have given you and my name. I will separate you from this house, which I have consecrated for you, and I will banish you from my eyes, and it will become a proverb and a proverb among all the people, and everyone who passes by will be amazed at this exalted house. Why has the Lord done this to this land and to this house? They say, Because they left the Lord, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and took hold of other gods to worship and serve. Therefore, he brought all these disasters upon them.

In relation to this nationwide Bible reading project, Trump emphasized, “In every generation, through every trial and every victory, God’s Word has taken our people and our country to incredible new heights.” He referenced George Washington’s remarks from his first inaugural address: “No one has a greater obligation to recognize and worship the invisible hand that directs the affairs of men than the United States.”

Reflecting on the upcoming 250th anniversary of America, Trump urged citizens to “reacquaint ourselves with our nation’s extraordinary Biblical foundations and give thanks for the countless ways God has been the divine source of our unity and national strength.”

Other readers during the initiative include Dr. Ben Carson, Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy, Rev. Franklin Graham, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, among many others.
