After leading the Atlantic Division and snapping the NHL’s longest playoff drought, the Buffalo Sabers kicked off their first playoff series since 2011 with a decisive home victory.
In Game 1, the Boston Bruins were ahead 2-0 with just eight minutes left, but Tage Thompson of the Sabers changed the game by scoring the team’s first playoff goal in 15 years, quickly leveling the score. Following that, Matthias Samuelsson netted a go-ahead goal, putting Buffalo at 3-2, and Alex Tuch sealed the deal with an empty-net goal.
Although Boston did score an additional point just eight seconds into the game, Buffalo triumphed in Game 1, winning 4-3.
