PBS worker Ivy Unruh reportedly murdered near her home by her estranged spouse

A young PBS employee and military veteran was reportedly shot outside her home by her estranged husband, subsequently passing away several days later, according to police and relatives.

Ivy Unruh, 25, an engineer with PBS from Kansas, sustained gunshot wounds to her upper body at around 8 a.m. Friday outside her apartment in Wichita.

The retired Marine was rushed to the hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries on Monday.

Authorities stated that Unruh’s estranged husband, Joshua Orlando, 29, called 911 to report the incident, was arrested at the scene, and a firearm was found.

Orlando was initially booked on a charge of aggravated assault, which was later elevated to first-degree murder following Unruh’s death.

PBS Kansas President Victor Hogstrom expressed the team’s devastation over losing a cherished colleague.

“When I heard the news, my first reaction was to slam my hands on the desk. I couldn’t believe it,” Hogstrom shared. He described Unruh as “motivated,” “trustworthy,” and a good team player who was intelligent and reliable.

A GoFundMe page established to assist with Unruh’s funeral expenses highlighted her service as a U.S. Marine, noting she “served her country with honor, strength, and selflessness.”

“To those who knew her, she was more than a Marine; she was a daughter, a sister, and a friend who brought light to others’ lives,” the fundraiser mentioned.

“Despite her bravery in leaving a dangerous situation, tragically, her life was cut short.” Police indicated that Orlando and Unruh were married but separated, and the investigation is being classified as a domestic violence homicide.
