Davey Chase’s Struggles in Final Months
Davey Chase, known for her role in “Lilo & Stitch,” faced serious challenges in her last months on Skid Row as she battled addiction, according to aid workers. Kevin Cole, who refers to himself as the “Mayor of Skid Row,” recalls knowing Chase at a time when she was much different from the beloved Disney figure she once was.
“We do outreach there, and she would frequently reach out to us,” Cole mentioned. “Looking at her photos now compared to back then, it’s a stark contrast.”
Cole highlights how addiction has impacted numerous celebrities, leading them to situations similar to Chase’s. “It’s incredibly sad,” he remarked. “Many people start well but sadly, some end up in dire straits, especially here on Skid Row.”
Chase passed away recently in a hospital, reportedly due to bacterial meningitis and complications related to blood infections. Cole noted that each time he encountered her, she appeared increasingly frail. He expressed concern, stating, “Every time I saw her, she was getting thinner, and I knew she needed help before it was too late.” Unfortunately, that help didn’t come in time.
A video captured in the months leading up to her death depicts a drastically underweight Chase lying on the floor of a tent. Friends shared that she was very much struggling with her weight during that period.
Cole described how the disease could draw even well-known individuals into the shadows of Skid Row. “People often forget about those they once knew, almost turning their backs on them,” he explained. “It’s heartbreaking to see.”
Chase’s manager, John Ryan, attempted to get her out of the addiction-ridden area but unfortunately could not do so quickly enough. After helping Ryan recover in Los Angeles, there were plans in place to send Chase to a rehabilitation facility in Costa Rica.
In a troubling twist, Chase’s alleged boyfriend has initiated a GoFundMe campaign in her name, a move her family describes as exploitative. They suspect he may be trying to profit from her legacy.
In Cole’s view, at least her family can now find some peace, knowing they don’t have to worry about her deteriorating condition anymore. “It’s hard to digest what happened, but I hope they can find some comfort in that,” he stated.
Reflecting on her character, he added, “Davey was a bright, kind spirit in Hollywood. It’s difficult to believe she’s gone. Her contributions and her spirit will remain.”
Chase also garnered attention for her role as Samara Morgan in “The Ring,” and her last appearances were in two films from 2016, including “American Romance.”
