Lakers' chances of winning the NBA title soar after unexpected 2-0 lead against Rockets

Lakers’ Surprising Playoff Performance

The atmosphere in Los Angeles is surprisingly optimistic these days.

The Lakers are currently facing the Rockets and, intriguingly, they’re down two of their star players. Yet, they somehow find themselves leading the series by two games.

This development has definitely caught the attention of oddsmakers.

As the playoff series kicked off, the Lakers shocked many by defeating the Rockets, coming in as a +550 underdog, especially with Luka Doncic and Austin Reeves absent for an unspecified time.

Even though they were playing at home, LA fell behind by about five points in their initial two games.

However, thanks to contributions from LeBron James and others, the Lakers managed to secure consecutive wins, taking a commanding 2-0 advantage, much to the surprise of Vegas odds makers.

The shift in their NBA championship odds has been quite dramatic in recent days.

Initially, they were deemed a long shot to win the playoffs at 150-1 odds at DraftKings, but now those odds have improved to 35-1 ahead of Wednesday’s matchup.

With Reeves expected to return soon and Doncic not far behind, hopes are rising for the Lakers to clinch the Western Conference title as well, where they currently stand at 25-1 odds.

Still, despite this positive momentum, some oddsmakers remain skeptical about the Lakers’ chances in this series.

At their current 2-0 lead, the Lakers are set at -135 to win the series (per DraftKings), hinting that the Rockets might not be out of the race yet.

Las Vegas seems to think that the Rockets have a solid chance of bouncing back on their home turf in Game 3.

Upcoming Matchup Insights

As the teams gear up for Friday’s game in Houston, the Rockets are listed as 9.5-point favorites, although that could shift if Reeves returns for the tipoff.

Whoever prevails in this contest will likely go on to face the reigning champions, the Thunder, who are currently -120 favorites to win the Larry O’Brien Trophy yet again.
