Max Fried's exceptional performance helps Yankees defeat Red Sox once more

Boston — Yankees Pitching Struggles Continue

The Yankees’ pitching woes persist, with questions arising about their effectiveness. Max Fried, however, delivered a standout performance, keeping the Red Sox at bay.

On a chilly Wednesday evening at Fenway Park, Fried threw eight scoreless innings, leading the Yankees to a 4-1 victory over the struggling Red Sox.

The Yankees (15-9) nearly achieved their first three-game shutout since 1962, but the Red Sox (9-15) managed to score a run in the ninth inning against Brent Headrick, ending the shutout streak. This came after the Yankees had pitched 26 consecutive scoreless innings, surpassing the earlier record of 20 scoreless innings this season.

Fried initiated this streak and concluded it by allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out nine. Remarkably, he finished the night strong with 14 straight pitches and struck out Willson Contreras with his final pitch of the game.

After Giancarlo Stanton made a significant impact in the previous game, it was Amed Rosario’s turn on Wednesday. He accounted for all four runs, starting with a three-run homer off Red Sox pitcher Ranger Suarez in the first inning.

Stanton kept the momentum alive by hitting a double after Aaron Judge walked. Then, Rosario delivered a powerful shot, launching it over the Green Monster for a quick 3-0 lead.

In the third inning, Stanton hit another double with runners in scoring position, prompting Rosario to hit a sacrifice fly and extend the lead to 4-0.

Fried’s performance only improved as the game progressed. The Red Sox had their best chance to get on the scoreboard in the second inning when they had runners on second and third after a walk and a double from Jalen Duran. Yet, Fried struck out three consecutive batters to escape the jam.

Solid defensive plays also supported Fried, particularly from third baseman Ryan McMahon, who replaced Rosario in the sixth inning.
