Margaret Cho’s Strong Critique of Trump Administration

Comedian Margaret Cho has taken another jab at Donald Trump, expressing a desire for “brutal, bloodthirsty, violent Democrats” to “punish” the president and his cabinet. This remark came shortly after she accused the administration of finding some sort of twisted pleasure in “cruel acts,” particularly towards the marginalized.

In a podcast episode of creative asylum released on Tuesday, Cho criticized the Trump administration for what she perceives as a deliberate brutality against poorer communities and minorities.

“It really pisses me off when they use our words against us, like when they were saying, ‘Oh, it’s the Democrats’ fault that the government was shut down.’ Caroline Leavitt also pointed out, ‘Their cruelty is the point.’ No, that’s you. Your cruelty is the point. They seem to take pleasure in the suffering of immigrants and transgender individuals, wanting to put children and the needy in terrible situations. It’s unsettling,” she said.

The podcast host, Daniel House, echoed sentiments from earlier guests by suggesting that many of Trump’s followers might have “daddy issues.” He remarked, “It’s all unresolved stuff from childhood, and somehow it manifests as a form of cruelty, which is pretty odd.” Cho responded, acknowledging that this seems to tie to a search for safety through authoritarianism that ultimately fails.

Cho then launched into a passionate discussion about punishing Republican politicians, advocating for severe consequences like prison sentences for them, perhaps without fully realizing the irony in her statements. “I truly believe that politics is a pendulum. If it swings back, there will be punishment—they will go to jail. We can’t give up,” she imagined.

House remarked on the Democratic Party’s lack of assertiveness, likening it to “going into a knife fight with a spoon”—essentially, he believes they’re always ill-prepared. Cho echoed this frustration, expressing a desire for a more aggressive approach.

“I want to believe in the Democratic Party. I’m a Democrat, but I find myself oddly fixated on civility and taking the high road, and frankly, none of that seems to work. We need someone wild, someone willing to put them all behind bars. We just need to do it,” she emphasized.

Cho is no stranger to making bold statements about politics. Recently, while receiving the Queerty Award, she criticized Trump harshly, claiming he was an “incontinent child molester” and suggesting that cross-dressers face a form of “genocide,” urging queer individuals to respond with defiance against the current administration.

Last January, she connected a tragic shooting incident to something Trump said years ago, reflecting on his influence. Much of her discourse in leftist circles centers around her disdain for Trump and his associates. She once expressed, “Every time I see him, hear his voice, think of him, I whisper, ‘Please die.’” Her commentary often veers into headlines and personal accounts, where she expresses disdain for various political figures, revealing a raw emotion in her critique.
