Cleveland Browns Trade First-Round Picks to Kansas City Chiefs
The Cleveland Browns made a significant move on Thursday night by trading their No. 6 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft to the Kansas City Chiefs. In the deal, Cleveland also sent the No. 9 pick, along with a third-round pick at No. 74 and a fifth-round pick at No. 148.
Currently, the Browns hold the No. 9 and No. 24 picks in the first round, boasting a total of 11 selections in the upcoming draft.
This trade marked the first significant exchange of picks during the first round. The Chiefs, meanwhile, used this opportunity to select cornerback Mansour Delane from LSU, addressing a pressing need after trading Pro Bowl cornerback Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams earlier in the offseason. Fans of the Chiefs may have felt they were privy to some inside information that was not apparent to everyone else.
On the flip side, Browns fans had mixed reactions to the news. It wouldn’t be surprising if some were skeptical; after all, being a Browns fan often involves a certain level of, well, apprehension. They might have thought, “Did we just mess this up?”
By moving down three spots, the Browns had the chance to draft linebacker Sonny Styles from Ohio State or wide receiver Jordyn Tyson from the New Orleans Saints. Ultimately, they chose to go for offensive tackle Spencer Fano from Utah State, likely aiming to bolster their offensive line.
It’s pretty clear Fano has talent and will probably step into a starting role at left tackle, which could be a real boost for the Browns.
However, I’m guessing some fans might be scratching their heads, wondering why Cleveland didn’t select Miami’s Francis Mauigoa, who was picked by the New York Giants at No. 10 and made quite a statement about his commitment to his quarterback. That’s the kind of thinking that can linger in the minds of anxious Browns supporters.
