Meghan McCain Reflects on Trump and Reconciliation
On her recent podcast, conservative commentator Meghan McCain expressed her appreciation for the current demeanor of former President Donald Trump. She mentioned that she felt a sense of ease, even saying that she almost “buried the hatchet” after receiving a thoughtful message from him.
This marks a notable shift after years of tension between the McCain family and Trump, particularly considering that McCain is the daughter of the late Senator John McCain. She indicated that they have managed to find some common ground.
During a visit to the White House, where Tulsi Gabbard was appointed director of national intelligence, McCain noted that discussions were held about Gabbard’s presence at the event given her contentious history with Trump. Ultimately, she needed Trump’s approval to attend.
Interestingly, McCain recounted how Trump welcomed her warmly and sent a private message to her and her husband, Ben Domenech, which she preferred to keep private. She described this gesture as a significant blessing in light of their past interactions.
Reflecting on their contentious history, it’s hard to forget Trump’s past criticisms of Senator McCain, particularly his assertion in 2015 that McCain wasn’t a true war hero, a sentiment he maintained even after John McCain’s passing in 2018. The late senator famously opposed Trump’s policies, including voting against the repeal of Obamacare.
I mean, it’s quite the turnaround, right? Not long ago, Meghan had said that Trump would never match her father’s stature. She has even mentioned that despite not supporting his candidacy for 2024, she’s still critical of Kamala Harris.
Recently, McCain speculated on whether Trump’s softer side is a reflection of his age or perhaps the experiences he’s faced, including an assassination attempt that took place in July 2024, which left one of his supporters dead at a rally. It’s incredible how life-changing incidents can shift one’s perspective, isn’t it?
According to Lara Trump, the president believes that achieving his goals could make him a target. She emphasized how crucial moments that dramatically alter one’s life can lead to transformative changes in attitude or outlook.
